Black Dress Cheesecake

These rich and creamy cheesecakes are a symbol for the popular “black dress”. They are perfect for a formal Oscar party.


Vegetable oil spray
24 plain chocolate wafer cookies
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
¼ cup sugar
2/3 cup fromage blanc (6 ounces)
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup seedless raspberry preserves, warmed


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 12 cup muffin pan with foil baking cups. Spray cups with vegetable oil spray. Crush chocolate wafer cookies in a food processor. Add in butter and process until there are fine crumbs.
Spoon cookie crumbs into baking cups. Press into baking cups.
Bake for 5 minutes. Leave the oven on.
Beat cream cheese and sugar at medium speed until smooth.
Beat in fromage blanc. Add in eggs and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
Pour cheesecake into cups to three-quarters full.
Bake for 15 minutes. Cheesecake should be slightly jiggly in the center.
Spread 1 teaspoon of warmed raspberry preserves on top of each cheesecake.
Chill in freezer for about 15 minutes.
Remove cheesecakes from pan and peel off foil baking cups.
Transfer cheesecakes to platter.
Refrigerate for up to four days.

Maple-Glazed Chicken Wings

These are a hearty snack that everyone on the guest list will love. This recipe is for a serving of 6-8, so double up the recipe accordingly.


2 to 3 pounds whole chicken wings
1 cup maple syrup
2/3 cup chili sauce
½ cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
¼ to ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes


Cut chicken wings into three sections. Discard wing tip section.
Combine remaining ingredients into a large re-sealable plastic bag.
Set aside 1 cup for basting. Refrigerate.
Add chicken to marinade. Seal bag and coat chicken. Refrigerate for 4 hours. Turn occasionally.
Drain and throw out marinade. Grill chicken over medium heat. Cover for 12-16 minutes. Turn occasionally. Brush with reserved marinade from the refrigerator.
Grill, uncovered, for 8-10 more minutes.

Sparkling Oscar Punch

This is a non-alcoholic drink that stays with the theme of red for your red carpet entrance.


Two 10 ounce packages of frozen raspberries or strawberries
6 cups water
1 ½ cups sugar
10 whole cloves
½ tsp ground cardamom
Six 3 x ½ inch strips of orange zest (peeled)
1 vanilla bean, split
2 cups orange juice
2 cups club soda


In a large saucepan, mix berries, water, sugar, cloves, cardamom, zest, and vanilla bean. Bring to a boil. Simmer uncovered for ten minutes.
Strain mixture. Cool to room temperature.
Stir in orange juice.
Stir in club soda when ready to serve over ice.
